Ingredients
1 medium cake (approx 1 lb) Chocolate Cake or Brownies
2 cans (15 oz each) Canned Tart Cherries
1/4 cup Cherry Liqueur (Kirsch)
3 cups Heavy Whipping Cream
1/2 cup Powdered Sugar
1 tsp Vanilla Extract
1/2 cup Dark Chocolate Shavings
Variable Holiday Toppings (candy canes, sprinkles, or berries)
Instructions
- Cube the chocolate cake or brownies into 1-inch pieces
- Drain the canned cherries and mix them with the Kirsch and two tablespoons of the reserved juice
- In a chilled bowl, beat the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla until stiff peaks form
- Place half of the chocolate cake cubes at the bottom of your trifle dish and drizzle with cherry juice
- Spread half of the cherry mixture over the cake and then layer half of the whipped cream
- Repeat with the remaining cake cubes, cherry mixture, and top with the remaining whipped cream
- Garnish with dark chocolate shavings and any holiday toppings
- Chill in the refrigerator for at least two hours before serving
Notes
Always chill your bowl and beaters before whipping the cream to ensure it stays stable.
Do not skimp on the soaking liquid to keep the trifle moist.
