Crème brûlée is a classic French custard dessert known for its rich, creamy base topped with a crispy caramelized sugar crust. The dessert combines the delightful textures of a silky custard and a crunchy topping, making it a favorite among dessert lovers.

Ingredients

cups heavy cream
/2 cup granulated sugar
teaspoon vanilla extract
large egg yolks
Additional sugar for caramelizing

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (160°C)
  2. In a saucepan, heat the cream with the vanilla extract until just steaming
  3. In a bowl, whisk the egg yolks and sugar until pale and slightly thickened
  4. Gradually add the warm cream to the egg yolk mixture, whisking continuously
  5. Pour the custard mixture into ramekins placed in a baking dish
  6. Fill the baking dish with hot water, halfway up the sides of the ramekins
  7. Bake for 30-40 minutes until set but still slightly wobbly in the center
  8. Chill the ramekins in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours
  9. Before serving, sprinkle sugar on top of each custard and use a torch to caramelize the sugar until golden and crispy
