Mexican Hot Chocolate

  • Author: Ethan Carter
  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: 3 servings 1x

Description

Three small mugs of sweetened Mexican-style chocolate melted into cinnamon-infused milk and water, then whisked frothy.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups Whole milk
  • 1 cup Water
  • 1 stick Small cinnamon stick
  • 3 oz Sweetened Mexican-style chocolate, chopped, package weight checked

Instructions

  1. In a small heavy saucepan, combine 2 cups whole milk, 1 cup water and 1 small cinnamon stick. Warm over medium-low until steaming, about 6 minutes, without a rolling boil.
  2. Remove the pan from the heat and let the cinnamon steep 5 minutes. Lift out the stick. Chop and weigh 3 oz sweetened Mexican-style chocolate, checking the package for its ingredients and sugar.
  3. Return the pan to low heat, add the chocolate and whisk gently for approximately 4 minutes until fully dissolved and hot. Do not boil the milk mixture.
  4. Whisk briskly or use a clean molinillo until lightly frothy, then divide among three small heatproof mugs. Taste the specific chocolate brand and record final volume in a kitchen trial.
