Description

This Sheet Pan 'Unstuffed' Cabbage Rolls with Beef is a quick and delicious take on the traditional recipe, offering all the comfort and flavor without the tedious preparation. It's made by roasting ground beef, cabbage, and seasonings together for an easy and satisfying dinner perfect for busy weeknights.

Ingredients

Scale

1.5 lbs Ground Beef
1 medium head Green Cabbage, chopped into 1-inch chunks
1 large Yellow Onion, diced finely
4 cloves Garlic, minced or pressed
2 cups Cooked White Rice
15 oz can Tomato Sauce
14.5 oz can Diced Tomatoes, drained
1/2 cup Beef Broth
2 tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
1 tsp Smoked Paprika
3 tbsp Olive Oil
Salt & Black Pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a large rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper or foil
  2. Chop the cabbage into one-inch squares and toss the cabbage and diced onions on the pan with olive oil, salt, and pepper. Spread them into an even layer and roast for 15 minutes
  3. While the cabbage roasts, brown the ground beef in a skillet over medium-high heat, draining excess fat. Stir in garlic and smoked paprika
  4. Remove the sheet pan from the oven and push the cabbage to make room for the beef and cooked rice. Distribute the beef and rice evenly over the cabbage
  5. In a bowl, whisk together tomato sauce, drained diced tomatoes, beef broth, and Worcestershire sauce, then pour over the entire mixture on the pan and toss gently to coat
  6. Spread everything back into a flat layer and return the pan to the oven for 20 minutes. For extra crispiness, turn on the broiler for 2-3 minutes at the end

Notes

Use cold, leftover rice for best texture and to prevent gumming.

Don't crowd the pan to ensure roasting instead of steaming.

Allow the dish to rest for five minutes before serving to let flavors meld.
