Coconut Condensed Milk Snowballs

Coconut Condensed Milk Snowballs. A proposed no-bake coconut and sweetened-condensed-milk candy rolled into little snowballs and chilled to set. The formula and timing below are working estimates for a future kitchen trial, not a claim that a batch has been made.

A cold-set candy, not a baked cookie

These little white snowballs rely on sweetened condensed milk to bind finely shredded coconut. There is no raw egg, butter or oven step. After a covered refrigerator rest, the centers should hold together while the outer coconut stays visibly snowy.

This is a proposed batch, not a tested candy. Coconut shred size and dryness, condensed-milk brand and scoop size determine whether the balls set. The eighty-minute total includes a full hour of chilling. It should not be advertised as ready the moment the mixture is stirred.

Two coconut measures, one milk measure

Three cups finely shredded unsweetened coconut go inside the mixture; a separate half cup is reserved for the coating. Keep these measures separate before opening the condensed milk. Sweetened coconut changes sugar and moisture and is not the stated base.

Use three-quarter cup sweetened condensed milk, not a whole can by default and not evaporated milk. Half a teaspoon vanilla and an eighth teaspoon salt are the only other additions. The formula has no almond center, unlike the reference candy, and the image must not show one.

Condensed milk is dairy. Coconut itself and packaged ingredients require allergen and cross-contact review. This is not the baked chocolate-dipped macaroon from the prior calendar day; that recipe has egg whites, golden toasted edges and dark chocolate, while this one is chilled and pale.

Fine salt1/8 teaspoonIn mixture.

Step-by-step method

  1. Stir 3 cups finely shredded unsweetened coconut, 3/4 cup sweetened condensed milk, 1/2 tsp vanilla and 1/8 tsp fine salt until evenly moistened. If the mixture is very loose with the selected coconut, refrigerate briefly before shaping and record the change for the kitchen trial.
  2. Scoop approximately 20 small even portions onto a parchment-lined tray. Press and roll with clean cool hands into compact balls. Pour the remaining 1/2 cup finely shredded unsweetened coconut into a shallow dish; coat each ball lightly.
  3. Refrigerate in a covered container at least 60 minutes until the snowballs hold their shape. Keep cold until serving; do not claim these dairy-based candies are shelf-stable at room temperature.
  4. Count and weigh the trial batch, assess sweetness and texture and revise if the chosen coconut absorbs a different amount of milk. The measured card contains no almond centers, powdered milk or chocolate.

Mix, shape and chill

Stir the center ingredients until every fine shred is coated. A small scoop helps portion approximately twenty mounds. Compress each with clean, cool hands, then roll briefly; long warm-hand handling can make the milk sticky.

Roll the pieces in the reserved half cup coconut and arrange on parchment without stacking. Cover and chill for at least an hour. A firm little candy should lift without flattening. If this particular brand stays too loose, record the mass and revise the measured center mixture rather than dumping in an uncounted handful.

Serve chilled. The pale coating in the prompt should be actual coconut, not confectioners' sugar. A decorative candy cup could be added later but is not necessary for the recipe card or the serving count.

If the mixture won't hold

Start by checking that the coconut was finely shredded and unsweetened. Large flakes leave gaps, while sweetened coconut can be wetter. Give the measured mixture its complete chill before changing the formula. A food processor pulse might alter particle size but would need a documented test.

If the snowballs feel dry and crumbly, confirm the condensed milk was measured and fully mixed. If they puddle, the exact brand ratio needs another trial. The goal is compact but not hard. Adding powdered milk or almonds changes this specific candy and may change allergen statements.

A thick coating can make a ball look large without fixing a soft center. Keep the outer coconut thin and check the middle after an hour. Do not assert a room-temperature gift-tin life for a cold-set dairy sweet.

A winter dessert assortment

A few snowballs alongside Chefly's Earl Grey cookies give a pale no-bake bite next to a crisp baked cookie. Keep them separately packed so coconut does not coat everything else. The connected-site title search found no named snowball page, but a final full-recipe overlap review is still needed.

Keep finished candies covered in the refrigerator and cold during transport. A precise storage duration and freeze-thaw texture are untested here. An editor should review the final dairy-candy handling before a published edible-gift claim.

Questions about the ingredients

Can I use evaporated milk?

No direct swap. It lacks the concentrated sweetness and thickness of condensed milk.

Why is there no almond inside?

The base is a uniform coconut candy. An almond-centered version would have a new allergen and a different picture and yield.

Are these the same as coconut macaroons?

No. Macaroons are baked with egg whites; these proposed snowballs are no-bake and rely on a refrigerator set.
