This cranberry orange Christmas punch is a chilled, nonalcoholic pitcher drink intended for guests who want a festive glass without spirits. Cranberry juice cocktail gives the red base, orange juice rounds it out, lime adds a little acidity and ginger ale supplies bubbles right before serving. The working formula uses chilled, pasteurized bottled juices and is not kitchen-tested. Juice brands differ widely in sweetness, so the final balance and ten-cup yield need an actual mixed batch.

Why mix the bubbles at the end?
Ginger ale loses carbonation while it sits in an open bowl. Keep the bottles cold, combine the juices first and add the ginger ale near the moment glasses are filled. That makes this a last-minute assembly rather than an overnight finished-punch recipe. The juice base could be measured in advance, but the quality of a stored mixed base still needs a test before a make-ahead promise.
There is no sparkling wine, rum or other spirit in this formula. “Cranberry juice cocktail” is a specific sweetened product, not the same thing as unsweetened 100% cranberry juice; swapping them without adjusting the rest of the formula could make the punch sharply tart. Check the actual bottled labels, including whether a specialty mixer contains alcohol.
Ingredients for a working ten-glass batch
| Ingredient | Amount | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Pasteurized cranberry juice cocktail, chilled | 4 cups | Sweetness and color vary by brand. |
| Pasteurized orange juice, chilled | 3 cups | Use a juice you would drink plain; pulp changes appearance. |
| Nonalcoholic ginger ale, chilled | 3 cups | Add last to preserve carbonation. |
| Fresh lime juice | 1/4 cup | Measure, then test balance; no extra lime wedges in the base. |
| Orange, washed and thinly sliced | 1 | Visible bowl garnish, not a substitute for measured juice. |
Use a clean pitcher or punch bowl with at least three quarts of capacity, a long spoon and glasses. The liquid measures just over ten cups before fruit is added, so ten one-cup pours are a working target; measure the real yield instead of silently rounding it down. Ice is not included in the liquid quantity.
A short assembly close to serving
- Chill and wash. Refrigerate the packaged juices and ginger ale ahead of time according to their labels. Scrub and thinly slice one orange. A cold start matters for a refreshing drink, but any advance chilling time is not included in the working 15-minute assembly estimate.
- Mix the juice base. In the pitcher or bowl, combine four cups cranberry juice cocktail, three cups orange juice and 1/4 cup lime juice. Stir and taste a small sample to record how the actual brands work together.
- Add fizz. Just before the first glasses are served, pour in three cups cold ginger ale. Stir gently once or twice rather than beating out the bubbles. Float the orange slices on the surface.
- Pour. Serve promptly in approximately ten one-cup portions without ice. If guests want ice, add it to their individual glasses so the whole bowl is not diluted. Note the actual volume and whether the orange slices get in the way of ladling.
The working active time is 15 minutes once the drinks are cold. It is not a tested claim that a room-temperature bottle can be chilled in 15 minutes. The formula contains no cooked step.
First-batch adjustments to test
Too sweet
Check whether the cranberry juice cocktail and ginger ale are both highly sweetened. Use a different labeled brand or test a measured change to the ratio rather than describing an untested “splash of sparkling water” as equivalent; that would change yield and carbonation.
Too tart
Confirm that the cranberry product is a juice cocktail rather than unsweetened cranberry juice. Do not add an arbitrary quantity of sugar to the final recipe without a test and revised nutrition assumptions.
Flat before guests arrive
Add ginger ale nearer service, chill the entire base and limit vigorous stirring. A large bowl in a warm room may still lose its fizz; record its appearance at 15 and 30 minutes before writing a party-holding claim.
Serving and safety notes
Pour into clear glasses so the natural ruby-orange color remains visible. The orange slices belong in the bowl. The base does not include floating whole cranberries; small loose berries can be difficult to control in individual glasses. A separate dessert plate might include existing Earl Grey cookies, which are a different Chefly recipe, not an ingredient of the punch.
Choose pasteurized bottled juices and check labels: FDA juice-safety guidance notes that some packaged or fresh-sold juices are not pasteurized, which matters especially for vulnerable guests. Keep the finished punch chilled and refrigerate remaining juice promptly. A stored batch may lose bubbles; no untested storage or “make it two days ahead” quality claim is offered.
Questions before the final version
Is this punch alcohol-free?
The proposed ingredient list contains no spirits or wine and calls specifically for nonalcoholic ginger ale. Verify the labels of the particular products used, especially a specialty mixer, before using an absolute alcohol-free label in published copy.
Can I substitute pure cranberry juice?
Not without developing a different balance. Pure unsweetened cranberry juice may be much tarter than the sweetened cocktail specified here. Test a measured new ratio rather than pretending the products are interchangeable.
Can I add ice to the bowl?
It will dilute the full batch as it melts. The working method puts ice in individual glasses if desired. Any frozen-fruit ice ring or other decoration needs a separate food-handling and flavor test.

Cranberry Orange Christmas Punch
- Total Time: 15 minutes
- Yield: 10 servings 1x
Description
A chilled nonalcoholic pitcher punch of cranberry juice cocktail, orange juice, lime juice and ginger ale.
Ingredients
- 4 cups Chilled pasteurized cranberry juice cocktail
- 3 cups Chilled pasteurized orange juice
- 3 cups Chilled nonalcoholic ginger ale
- 1/4 cup Fresh lime juice
- 1 whole Orange, scrubbed and sliced thinly for bowl garnish
Instructions
- Chill the packaged juices and ginger ale in advance according to their labels; wash and thinly slice one orange. Use a clean pitcher or punch bowl of at least 3-quart capacity.
- Shortly before serving, stir the chilled cranberry juice cocktail, orange juice and 1/4 cup fresh lime juice together. Taste a small sample to record whether the chosen brands need a revised balance.
- Pour in the cold, nonalcoholic ginger ale and stir once or twice gently. Float the orange slices; do not add whole small berries that guests may inadvertently swallow.
- Serve promptly in approximately ten 1-cup portions without ice; measure the actual yield. If serving over ice, add ice to glasses rather than diluting the whole bowl unless that variation is tested.
- Keep remaining juice punch cold. Refrigerate promptly, and do not present a defizzed stored batch as though it retained fresh bubbles.
