Cranberry Rosemary Mocktail. A proposed cranberry-rosemary mocktail with tart juice, citrus, rosemary syrup and sparkling water. The formula and timing below are working estimates for a future kitchen trial, not a claim that a batch has been made.

A tart, herbal drink with real fizz
This nonalcoholic drink starts with unsweetened cranberry juice rather than a premixed sweet cocktail. A small rosemary-infused syrup softens its sharp edge, orange juice gives a rounder citrus note, and lime keeps the whole pitcher lively. Plain sparkling water goes in only at service so the four glasses retain bubbles.
It is a proposed recipe, not a report of a tested punch. The thirty-five-minute working total includes a short syrup simmer and twenty minutes of steeping and cooling, with the juices already chilled. Cranberry brands and syrup reduction differ, so the final sweet-tart balance and four-glass pour volume need a trial.
Know which cranberry juice is in the pitcher
The base calls for one cup unsweetened 100% cranberry juice, which is much sharper than a sweetened cranberry-juice cocktail. Substituting cocktail without reducing syrup would make a different drink; compare labels before assembling. Half a cup fresh orange juice and two tablespoons lime juice are measured separately. The image should show a red drink, not a pale orange spritzer.
The syrup begins with equal quarter-cup measures of water and sugar plus two rosemary sprigs. The sprigs steep and are removed, so there are no loose needles in guests' glasses. Add three tablespoons of the cooled syrup to the pitcher, not the entire saucepan automatically. Any leftover syrup is a byproduct whose amount depends on evaporation; record it in a real test.
One and a half cups plain sparkling water and two cups ice finish four drinks. Flavored tonic, ginger beer or lemonade would add sweetness and flavor not accounted for in the card. This is called a mocktail because there is no liquor or wine in the measured ingredients, not because a packaged brand has been certified to a special standard.
Ingredients for 4 drinks
| Ingredient | Amount | Use |
|---|---|---|
| Water, for syrup | 1/4 cup | Small rosemary syrup batch. |
| Granulated sugar, for syrup | 1/4 cup | Dissolve completely. |
| Fresh rosemary sprigs, for syrup | 2 sprigs | Steep, then remove. |
| Unsweetened cranberry juice, chilled | 1 cup | Use 100% cranberry, not sweetened cranberry cocktail. |
| Fresh orange juice, chilled | 1/2 cup | Measured citrus. |
| Fresh lime juice | 2 tablespoons | For tart balance. |
| Plain sparkling water, chilled | 1 1/2 cups | Add just before pouring. |
| Ice cubes | 2 cups | Divide among four glasses. |
Step-by-step method
- Put 1/4 cup water, 1/4 cup granulated sugar and 2 fresh rosemary sprigs in a small saucepan. Bring to a gentle simmer just until sugar dissolves, about 3–5 minutes; turn off heat and steep about 10 minutes. Remove sprigs, strain and cool the syrup about 10 more minutes. This yields a small amount; measure what remains after reduction.
- In a pitcher stir 1 cup chilled unsweetened cranberry juice, 1/2 cup chilled fresh orange juice and 2 tbsp lime juice with 3 tbsp cooled rosemary syrup. Taste this concentrated base; reserve any remaining syrup rather than pouring it all in by default.
- Just before serving, stir 1 1/2 cups chilled plain sparkling water gently into the pitcher. Divide 2 cups ice among four glasses and pour equal amounts of drink over the ice. Do not shake carbonated water in a sealed shaker.
- Serve promptly for the intended fizz. Record the actual syrup yield, sweetness with the selected cranberry brand and volume per glass in a kitchen test. If more syrup is needed for a different juice, update the measured card rather than making an untracked adjustment.
Steep, cool and mix just in time
Gently simmer water, sugar and rosemary only until sugar dissolves, then stop the heat. A brief ten-minute steep should carry herbal aroma without a long, woody extraction. Strain and cool before mixing with chilled fruit juices; pouring warm syrup over ice immediately would dilute the drink before it reaches the table.
Mix the cranberry, orange, lime and measured syrup first. Taste that concentrate before adding sparkling water. It will be more intense than the final drink. If a particular unsweetened cranberry juice needs more sweetness, note the additional measured syrup during the trial and revise the recipe and nutrition assumptions; do not silently call an unmeasured variation the same formula.
Add sparkling water gently only at service, divide ice among four glasses and pour. Do not seal carbonated liquid in a cocktail shaker. The served liquid is about three cups before ice and any small changes in syrup volume, so glasses should have space for ice and bubbles.
When the mocktail tastes too tart or flat
A syrup added straight from a hot pan can warm the juice, and a pitcher left standing will lose carbonation. Cool the syrup and keep sparkling water separate until serving. If the drink is too sweet, first check whether the cranberry product was labeled cocktail rather than unsweetened juice.
Rosemary should smell fresh, not piney or bitter. Remove the sprigs after the steep and avoid crushing woody stems. A stronger herb infusion is a new test, not a reason to drop an unmeasured garnish into every glass. If the mocktail is watery, examine ice melt and whether the citrus or juice was already cold.
The Mediterranean Dish's cranberry-rosemary drink is a useful reference for the tart-juice, herb-syrup and sparkling structure. This working orange-and-lime version has its own measured quantities and service notes. A proposed local cranberry-and-cinnamon drink would be another flavor direction, not a second URL for exactly this glass.
Party staging without losing the bubbles
Make the rosemary syrup ahead and refrigerate it appropriately after cooling; chill the juices and sparkling water separately. Mix fruit juice and measured syrup nearer service, then add the bubbles in front of guests or just before carrying the pitcher out. A finalized refrigerated syrup shelf life has not been established for this small batch.
Chefly's Earl Grey cookies make a contrasting sweet bite beside the drinks; they are not used in the glass. The image prompts show four ice-filled ruby drinks and no invented sugared rim or floating cranberries. Actual visual assets, garnish decisions and image rights remain to be supplied.
Questions about the pitcher
Could sweetened cranberry cocktail replace the juice?
Only with a separate sweetness test and likely less syrup. The base deliberately uses unsweetened cranberry juice.
Can I add sparkling water early?
For the intended fizz, add it just before pouring; do not keep an assembled carbonated pitcher in the refrigerator for hours.
Is there alcohol in the syrup?
The measured syrup is water, sugar and rosemary only. Check any commercial substitutes if serving someone who avoids alcohol.
